New to AA?

Welcome — We’re Glad You Found Us

If you’re wondering whether AA might be right for you, you’re in the right place. Many of us arrived here unsure, nervous, or just plain tired. You don’t have to know anything about AA to get started — just a willingness to show up and listen.

You’re not alone, and you’re not expected to have all the answers. We’ve been where you are, and we’re here to help.

What Is AA?

Alcoholics Anonymous is a simple program where people who have struggled with drinking help each other stay sober. There are no dues, no fees, no sign‑ups, and no pressure. AA isn’t affiliated with any religion, institution, or political group.

We share our stories, support each other, and learn how to live one day at a time.

What Happens at a Meeting?

Most newcomers are surprised by how relaxed and welcoming AA meetings are.

Here’s what you can expect:

-Friendly people who’ve been in your shoes
-A simple format for members to share their experiences
-No pressure to speak — you can just listen
-No judgment, no requirements, no expectations
Just come in, grab a seat, and take what you need.

How Do I Find a Meeting?

The easiest way to get started is to attend a meeting. You don’t need an appointment — just show up.

Newcomer FAQ

Do I have to talk? Not at all. Many of us listened for a while before we felt ready to share.

Does AA cost anything? No. There are no dues or fees. Groups pass a basket for voluntary contributions, but you’re never expected to give.

What if I’m not sure I’m an alcoholic? That’s okay. Many of us weren’t sure either. Keep coming — you’ll hear stories that may help you decide.

Is AA religious? No. AA is spiritual, not religious. You’re welcome here no matter what you believe — or don’t believe. Some meetings will close with a common prayer at the end, but there is no pressure or expectation that you must use. No one will judge.

What if I’m nervous? Totally normal. Most of us were nervous at our first meeting too. You’ll be welcomed warmly.

I’m young and just not sure what to do. I can’t imagine AA could help me, could it? We think this may help:
